The Future of Travel with COVID-19

The coronavirus has taken many travel enthusiasts into uncharted territory. The short-term future of travel seems uncertain and with so many travel deals being pitched by airlines and hotels, many of us are itching to use travel rewards as quickly as we can.

Be Patient. So far, 2020 has been far from normal. With lockdowns and quarantines happening all over the world, it’s hard to know what to do with all of your racked up travel rewards. While unnecessary travel isn’t recommended, this situation isn’t going to last forever, but it’s impossible to know when travel will be safe again. With that kind of uncertainty, the best thing you can do is wait it out and save your travel rewards.

Will travel rewards expire? This will highly depend on the type of travel rewards you have. Usually, your rewards won’t expire as long as you have an active credit card with the travel rewards program. Make sure that you take the time to review the fine print or contact a customer service agent directly to learn more about the travel rewards program expiration policy. Don’t forget to ask if there have been any changes to the program due to COVID-19. Even if that’s not the case, they are likely aware of other ways you may be able to prevent your miles and points from expiring!

You should check cancellation policies before booking. This is a big one. Some travel rewards programs have very strict cancellation policies and could leave you in a pickle should you book without reviewing all the details.

There is so much still up in the air when thinking about traveling and the future of travel. At Jarbucks, we recommend taking the “wait-and-see” approach with your hard earned rewards. Once leisure travel is safe again, you will have plenty of opportunities to use your points wisely.
